Locri
Locri is one of most notes Greek colonies of Calabria; the Epizefiri name, than always is accompanied to the name of the ancient town, refers to the geographic position of the first takeover that, founded towards the end of VIII the century b.C., was situated exactly in the vicinities of Cape Zefirio , today Cape Bruzzano. The town, that it was founded from coloni coming from the Locride Ozolia or, second other sources, from the Locride Opunzia. Little time after the foundation, probably in half of VII century b.C., the Zaleuco legislator gave to Locri a corpus of written laws that it turns out to be the most ancient European legislative code. Founded on Tyrrhenian the sub-colonies of Hipponion (today Vibo Valentia) and of Medma (today Rosarno), the town knew its maximum splendor until the first decades of V the century, but, already from the IV century, entered in the sphere of infuence of Siracusa, incurring in a graduates and irreversible process of decline; in the 205 b.C became at last roman municipium. Locri came definitively abandoned around to the VII or VIII century a.C., when its inhabitants, to preserve themselves from Arabic incursions, castled in the territory of Gerace. Gerace from half of the 800 developed also along the coast, giving itself origin to a fraction that in 1934 taked the name of Locri. Today is a modern city with a tourist vocation very strong, and one of most active industrial centers of Reggio Calabria district.

Gerace
Is situated in a magnificent panoramic position on one cliff of 479 m. of altitude. Under the bizantines then, the city, assumed the name of Haghia Kyriake' (Saint Ciriaca), acquired remarkable administrative and religious importance; it knew however its maximum splendor in age normanna, after to have been conquered from Roberto the Guiscardo in XI century. Belonged to various owner, then became with French first district, and had this role also under the Borboni. After 1850 developed along the coast, building a new city nucleus; this place changed its name in 1934 from Gerace Marina to Locri. The city, than conserve consisting traces of illustrious past, maintains the medioevale city structure intact, with the evocative historical center. Has remarkable interest the artistic testimonies, like the splendid cathedral, the rests of the castle, and various churches are signaled. The many alive artisan traditions, above all the webbing, the artistic working of the iron, the ceramics and the terracotta works. Famous is the tipical gastronomy, in particular the cakies; appreciated at last the rarest Greek wine, of amber yellow color and to high alcoholic gradation, now product in limited quantity.
